Doing what we love to do.

One of the biggest reasons for starting our podcast? We love to learn, experiment, risk, fail, jump, fall, grow... and then share it with all of you.

January was a big month of exploration for both of us! Less time on social media, and more energy was spent trying new protocols, new products, new tests, and new toys!

What did we find out? We don’t have all the answers yet, but we want to share this journey with you!

FACT: Our gut houses 100 TRILLION microbes - the same number of cells we have in our body.

Why does it matter? The unique bacteria in your gut (gut microbiome) determines how you respond to food, how you digest it, and how it affects your blood glucose response.

Blood sugar dysregulation, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and diabetes are rapidly increasing worldwide. And yea, we need to stop eating sugar and SAD foods, but it’s more personal than that.

The many reasons why I love Turkish-Get-Ups:

1. They train my ability to get off the ground, which I hope to be able to do until the day I die.

2. They strengthen my patience and determination, and calm my monkey mind by being equally as empowering as they are educational.

3. They enhance my coordination and balance and reduce the risk of me spilling shit (I SPILL EVERYTHING). 4. They make me feel like a badass.

5. And then all the incredible physical benefits: increased stability of the shoulders and trunk, increased mobility of the thoracic spine and hips, increased strength in the upper body, core and glutes, and increased integration between upper and lower body movement.

How do you know if you’re recovered?

Recovery is a little more complex then just, “are my legs still sore?” or “I’m too tired to workout.” Motivation and other mental/emotional factors can cloud our feelings or associations with efficient recovery, or what we’re supposed to feel like.

If you haven’t explored different metrics to clarify this relationship, there are lots of fun factors to play with.

Tracking HRV is one of my favorites (I use the OURA ring, but there are many other options like pulse oximeters, Elite HRV, Whoop). Sleep is often overlooked, and it’s not just - did you get 8 hours of sleep... Are your hormones imbalanced from overtraining? Is your cortisol too high or too low? Did you eat the right food (amount and quality) after your workout? If you’re not getting killer sleep, this one deserves a deep dive.

Not sure if you should workout but you kinda want to? Perform a full, targeted warm-up, then reassess. If the warm-up makes you more tired, reconsider what is actually going to help you with your goals today. You will get stronger with rest.

Some other interesting factors to consider: resting heart rate, urine color, and general state of being. Are you stressed, depressed, anxious, under the weather? Mood matters.

These aren’t the answers, but rather points for consideration. No one knows your body like you do. And no one knows your body like you with the help of metrics and quantification.
